Founded in 1919 by Thomas Kramer as a small motor repair shop in Memphis, Shelby Electric soon outgrew its original location on Union Avenue. With the addition of a Wiring Department to serve its growing number of customers, the firm relocated to 390 South Main Street in downtown Memphis. In 1930 we moved to our present location at 112 East E.H. Crump Blvd. Many of Shelby Electric's key staff have been associated with the firm for their entire business careers in electrical contracting. Their experience and know-how have been responsible for Shelby Electric's continued growth. Collectively, the owners of Shelby Electric have over 100 years experience at the company.

As one of the oldest and most reliable contractors serving the Mid-South area, Shelby Electric's wide range of capabilities has grown to include variable frequency drives, electric motor repair, apparatus sales, roadway and plant lighting and maintenance, overhead power lines, underground systems installation, traffic signal installations, high voltage power systems, infrared screening and now we install solar power systems.
